There are lots of variation in answering this question, but in summary, YES! All vehicles can benefit from having the ECU remapped.

When a manufacturer designs and builds an engine they apply a "default" set of mapping parameters to the PCM/ECU, to allow for different specs of car and power outputs, and also to allow for environmental variance across multiple countries, where the vehicle will be sold, along with allowing for potential poor service and maintenance, and inconsistent fuel quality.

Here in the UK we have a good climate, and great fuel quality, so we don't need such wide "default" parameters, to ensure longevity and reliability.

As a result, there is always room to improve the "map" on the ECU from factory build, and let a little more power and torque through to the wheels.

Think of remapping, as fine tuning the ECU instructions to match our climate and fuel and the needs of vehicle.

The bi-product of the changes made through the remap are better acceleration, better pedal response, less turbo lag, and a smoother torque curve (the way the power is delivered).

All of these improvements, allow for better fuel economy, improved towing ability, and overall, much much better performance, compared to the factory map.
